Our History.

From coal store to WH Smith to Community Shop.

The first train departed from Hampton for Waterloo at 7:35am on the first of November 1864. At that point the shop was most likely a coal yard, through the years the shop shifted to become a WH Smith & Son, before finally being reborn just over a hundred years after that first train as a community book store.

Who we support

Local Causes that need a little help.

The shop has always strived to help smaller organisations in and around Hampton who do not have traditional main-stream funding.

Radio West Middlesex

A volunteer-run radio station at the West Middlesex University Hospital broadcasting 24 hours a day since 1967 and it aims to brighten up the stay of patients, entertain them and provide local information for the community.

The Hygiene Bank

A national grassroots community-based charitable project where people in a community come together to collect toiletry basics.

Richmond Talking Newspaper

Richmond Talking Newspaper provides local news in audio form for people with visual impairment and/or other physical difficulties in the Borough of Richmond.

We support causes that impact the local community of Hampton. As we have limited funds we try to focus on smaller organisations where a small donation goes a long way. Distribution of funds is voted on by volunteers throughout the year so please get in touch if you feel we may be able to help.
